Users
Users represent the people who will use the Learning
Management System. There are six standard user types, indicated
by the LMS Role that is assigned to the user
account when you create it. You can edit these types or create your
own as required.
- Student:
Students only have access to their learning portal. They can
view their forthcoming schedule of classroom courses and access
online courses assigned to them. They can browse the course catalogues
assigned to them and can run reports to see their own progress.
The student role provides the lowest access level to the Learning
Management System. All user types incorporate the student role.
-
Manager: In
addition to the facilities available to a student, a manager has
access to the administration options of the Learning Management
System. However, a manager can only view information for users
that they manage—all other users do not appear. Additionally,
a manager can administer any groups or courses to which they have
been assigned as an administrator.
- Tutor: Tutors only have access to their
learning portal. This role is assigned to users who will be course
tutors but will not have administrative rights in the Learning
Management System.
- Accreditor: In addition to the
facilities available to a student, an accreditor has access to
the accreditation module. Accreditors can review and award accreditations
to users.
- Accreditation
administrator: In addition to the facilities available to
an accreditor, an accreditation administrator has the ability
to edit and delete messages from the accreditation forum.
- Training
administrator: In addition to the facilities available to
a student, a training administrator has full administration access
to all objects in the Learning Management System. Any reports
that a training administrator creates will cover all users in
the system.
- System administrator:
System Administrators have complete access to all facilities of
the Learning Management System. System administrators can configure
the Learning Management System to meet the needs of the organisation,
such as vocabulary, resource links, and the message of the day.
Since the training administrator and system administrator
roles are so similar, from here on the term “administrator”
will be used to describe functionality that is common to both roles.
