System administrator tasks
The system administrator can perform all tasks in the Learning Management System. As such they are responsible for much of the initial configuration and administration of the system. Typically a system administrator’s task will fall into 3 main stages:
1. Create objects: Before your organisation can use the Learning Management System, you will need to create all the objects that you will need to manage your learning. This includes all the users that need to use the system, and all the courses that should be available to those users. You may also wish to set up learning events to represent classroom-based courses.
2. Make assignments: When you have all the objects in the Learning Management System, you must make assignments to create each user’s learning schedule. For example, you will need to assign users to groups, learning objects to courses, and courses to catalogues. You may also choose to configure competencies and job roles so that users can match their skills against other jobs.
3. Run reports: When users have started to use their learning schedule and have accessed courses, you can monitor their progress through reports.
In addition to these main tasks, a system administrator is responsible for the configuration of the Learning Management System, such as changing any vocabulary or images to suit the needs of your organisation
