Getting Started
You have already seen previously in the User Guide, how to create a new lesson in the Lesson menu, and how to add pages to the lesson using the Page Manager.
You are now ready to begin creating your lesson and editing the actual pages that make up the lesson.
One of the key features of Kallidus® 6 Author is that you don’t need to be a highly skilled programmer or multimedia expert to be able to use the package, in order to create some impressive training programmes. All you need is to be able to use a mouse and understand some of the key features of the Authoring System, which will be explained below.
Once you have added a new page to your lesson using the Page Manager, you are ready to begin.
Select the page you want to edit, and click ‘Done’ from the Page Manager. The Page Manager will close, and you will be presented with your new, blank page, ready for editing.
When a lesson is launched the following screen is display. In the top left hand corner is the Toolbar. From here the options required to author a lesson can be accessed such as saving a page and navigating around the lesson and adding new objects to the page
In the top right hand corner is the Author Mode Toolbox. This is toolbox is contains some of the options in the Toolbar on a palette for quick and easy access
There are two distinct ‘Modes’ of display when viewing pages. Student Mode (the default mode you when you launch the lesson), and Author Mode, which is used when you want to make changes to a page
The current mode is highlighted by a square around the letters A and S in the Author Mode Toolbox. In the example above the system is in Student Mode. To change to Author Mode, click the A button on the Author Mode Toolbox.
Note: Author Mode is best viewed in 1024 x 768 screen resolution
