Adding Questions

Adding Questions adds further interactivity and allows for an evaluation of the learning within your lesson.  You may also wish to alter the learning path for a student depending on their answers to test question(s).  All this is possible by creating questions within your lesson.

Questions are represented by means of a question group, which contains both question and answers formed from question components. The groups are rectangles that can be filled with question text, text fields, graphic images, checkBoxes, radioButtons, comboBoxes or editBoxes.

Here are two examples:

an example of questions

An example of an image map with clickable areas

In the first example there is a question text field and three checkBoxes each with its own label text. In the second example the question is again contained in a text field, the map is a graphic image and the answer is determined by clicking on one of five radioButtons.

Question groups can be created by clicking on the Question button in the palette, then clicking on the lesson page. A new question group is a rectangle containing a question text field. The rectangle and the text field can be resized and edited by right-clicking over the respective objects. You will find that when the group is selected this obscures the text field and any other components, and you will need to click outside of the object group to deselect the group before selecting individual components.

Question components are added by right clicking on the new question rectangle and selecting one of the Add... items in the popup menu. When a checkBox, radioButton, comboBox or editBox is added a label is also placed in the group. This is associated with the component and is moved with it. You cannot delete the question text field or the labels associated with the components.

Once a component of type checkBox, radioButton, comboBox or editBox has been added the question group is given the corresponding type and the choice of further new components is restricted.

Components of a question group can be selected by ctrl-clicking or shift-clicking and they can then be grouped for the purpose of alignment and sizing.

The answers and scoring are set in the properties of the individual answer objects. As a student leaves the page the answers are recorded and scored.

A question group can have its property initially visible unchecked. The question group is then hidden when the page is first displayed. A button will then have to be included on the page with an action that shows the question group through a system call.
